There are countless problems we come across in our lives. Sometimes we find a solution right away, and sometimes it is hard to resolve the issue, and it clings to our thoughts and emotions. Many would find professional counseling for themselves, and many would just worry and worry and worry.
But, worrying is of no use. Stressing over is of no use. Sometimes things go out of our hands. What should we do then? Where to seek help? Well, calling for Allah’s help as He has asked us to, and the way Prophet (SAWW) has taught us to, will drain the worries away. The Holy Quran and life of Prophet (PBUH), his Sunnah, and ahadith exceedingly teach us duas when in anxiety, stress, and depression.
What Are Islamic Duas For Difficulties & Hardships?
LeGrand Richards says:
‘For every worry under the sun, there is a remedy, or there is none. Suppose there be one, hurry and find it. If there be none, then never mind it.’
It is not only us who faces problems in life. Great men and Prophets have faced them too. Physical abuse. Financial distress. Emotional hurdles. This kind of torture sufficed to bring stress and anxiety to the early believers of Makkah.
Fascinating is the fact that Allah has opened solutions to every problem of humankind. Life in the twenty-first century is becoming easier day by day. Even then, anxiety and depression have become two of the most diagnosed mental health illnesses at this time. And mesmerizes the Quran, being the book of all times, effortlessly solves these problems. Allah lessens the burden of stress from our souls, and calls to His people repeatedly:
“on them, there shall be no fear, and nor shall they grieve” [Surah Baqarah, 62]
We’ve already talked in our last post about 16 Islamic Ways To Deal With Depression, Stress & Anxiety. So today, we’ll be focusing solely on the root problems behind this stress, the difficulties and hardships that lead us towards anxiety – and by focusing on these problems, making duas for easy and Allah’s assistance, we’ll be able to remove them from our lives InshaAllah.
↓ 10 – To Get Relief From Stress & Hardships
It is has been reported by Abdullah bin Masood that the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said, “Whoever was afflicted with grief and anxiety and said (see the following Dua), Allah, the Exalted and Ever-Majestic, will remove his grief and will change his sorrow into happiness.” Bin Masood asked: “O Messenger of Allah! (Do) we have to learn these words?” He said, “Yes, whoever hears them should learn them.” – (Book: Masnad Ahmed)
O Allah, I am Your slave and the son of Your male slave and the son of your female slave. My forehead is in Your Hand (i.e., you have control over me). Your Judgment upon me is assured, and Your Decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every Name that You have named Yourself with, revealed in Your Book, taught any one of Your creation or kept unto Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen that is with You, to make the Qur’an the spring of my heart, and the light of my chest, the banisher of my sadness and the reliever of my distress.
↓ 9 – Prophet Mohammad’s Dua For Difficulty
Hazrat Anas has reported that whenever Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was in extreme distress and a problematic situation, he would supplicate the following dua:
“Ya Hayyu, ya Qayyumu, bi-rahmatika astaghithu”
O the Living, O the Eternal, I seek help in Your grace. [Tirmidhi]

↓ 7 – Dua Of Younus (A.S) To Deal With Distress
When the fish ate Yunus (A.S), he repented to Allah (SWT). Yunus (A.S) recited the following dua to illuminate his heart, to return from the darkness of the inside of the whale’s belly, from the darkness of the deep ocean, and the darkness of the night. Even today, when you feel a dark inside you or in your surrounding, this dua will enlighten you taking you away from distress and curing the darkness of heart and soul.

↓ 6 – Dua For Anxiety
You are being enclosed in a state of discomposure and apprehension when your thoughts continuously shriek negativity in you and do not give you rest. You can’t calm down. You feel strangled. You feel tangled. You feel turbulent. The word “Maghloob,” in Arabic, connotes being wrapped up, encapsulated, overpowered. Being wrapped in the sheets of negativity, you lose hope. The excerpt from Ayah from Surah Qamar will hold you up in times of hopelessness; the feeling of being lost will evade away.

Asma, daughter of ‘Amais, reported that the Prophet, peace be upon him, asked her,
“Shall I tell you words that you may say in times of pain or distress. These are, ‘Allah, Allah, Rabbi la ushriku bihi shai’an (Allah, Allah, my Lord, I associate none with Him).”
At places, this dua has been asked to be recited seven times. (Abu Dawood)
↓ 4 – Hazrat Musa’s Dua For Relief From Hardship
The clause you should recite is a powerful one. It is the dua Hazrat Musa (A.S) recited when he fled from his land, and people of his land were searching for him to kill him. Where there was no hope in the first place, in the new country where Mus (a.s) did not know anyone, these words that Musa (A.S) recited brought home to him, he raised a family, and he got employed. His fear, stress, and worry eroded with this. What he had was the trust in Allah.
You must also have that trust when everything looks falling apart. The words of Allah have power, which our mind can not fathom.

- Do as much Istighfar as possible as it is said to be the solution to every problem.
